Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin-audacious

Pidgin audacious doesn't seem to work at all, I've put %song in my status and user info and it doesn't expand to the song name.

There is minimal documentation in the documentation directory, and the developer's website is almost entirely in Japanese, and therefore inaccessible to non-Japanese speakers.

Ubuntu 8.04 (up to date as of 2008-04-15)

uname -a:
Linux tatooine 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 13:23:42 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

dpkg-query -W pidgin pidgin-audacious audacious:
audacious 1.5.0-2
pidgin 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2
pidgin-audacious 2.0.0-1

This is probably not a bug and more likely a configuration issue.

It would not surprise me at all if it was a configuration issue, which is why I immediately dove into the doc directory and checked out the readme. Then I went to the developer's website in search of more information. After spending nearly half a day on it, I'm unable to find any configuration options that will make it work.

So it remains true that the pidgin-audacious plugin doesn't work, either because it is broken or because there is no (discoverable) way to configure it.

On the other hand, I downloaded a similar (but independent) plugin, pidgin-audacious-remote, from sourceforge and built and installed it. It worked as advertised right away.

I'm just an old hobbyist and I don't know much but...
I walked through the pidgin-audacious.c code tonight and saw some things that were referenced/called that are not in pidgin/Purple now.

It seems as Yoshi is working on it now

I grabbed the latest files from http://freehg.org/u/honeyplanet/pidgin-audacious and compiled them to make
 /usr/lib/pidgin/pidgin-audacious3.so

After launching Audacious I unselected pidgin-audacious2.so and selected pidgin-audacious3.so.

Then to make it work I had to change my status to Away which gave me a box to type in.

I typed in %song and it works nicely now

Confirming the bug.

Site note: you can use the last.fm plugin for audacious and pidgin-lastfm to achieve a similar functionality if you have a last.fm account.

Changed in pidgin-audacious:
