Bug Description

A simple "apt install phpmyadmin" does not work in xenial.

1. Install xenial. I am using a vagrant box, should be the same as any other normal installation.
2. apt update && apt install phpmyadmin
3. "Please choose the web server that should be automatically configured to run phpMyAdmin.", I choose "apache2"
4. "The phpmyadmin package must have a database installed and configured before it can be used. This can be optionally handled with dbconfig-common. [...] Configure database for phpmyadmin with dbconfig-common?", I choose "Yes"
5. "Please provide a password for phpmyadmin to register with the database server. If left blank, a random password will be generated.", I leave it blank
6. "Please provide the password for the administrative account "root" with which this package should create its MySQL database and user.", I haven't got a clue of what the root password of mysql is, since I haven't set any, so I leave it blank
7. I get "An error occurred while installing the database: mysql: [Warning] mysql: Empty value for 'port' specified. Will throw an error in future versions ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) .", I choose to "ignore" and now I'm left with a phpmyadmin installation that does not work because the required mysql tables for phpmyadmin are never installed

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1649265/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
