Bug Description

According to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pgpool2/+publishinghistory pgpool2 is not longer available for Ubuntu 18.04

I asked it on Answers and got a suggestion to open a bug for 18.04 https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pgpool2/+question/669806

Not having pgpool means we can't use Postgresl in real production setup (with high availability, failover and load balancing). There are other solutions but they are not so feature-rich like pgpool2.

As 18.04 is LTS version, it means for real production we should either roll back to 16.04 (which has quite old Postgres) or switch to another distribution which supports pgpool2. Manual installation is possible but not really an option for production system as we also need security updates.

Please add pgpool2 back to Ubuntu 18.04. We don't use Java on postgresql servers, not sure why Java issue should affect Postgresl.

Any update on this one? I'm also looking for a pgpool2 installation from apt in 18.04. Same concerns as OP: need security updates, and no usage of Java in the same server.

We also needed pgpool2 in bionic so I decided to try to compile it from the 18.10 source package found here:

https://packages.ubuntu.com/source/cosmic/pgpool2

It compiled without any issues, built into 4 binary debs, which I installed on 18.04

It works well, I think these packages should be built on 18.04 and pushed into backports.

Who can make that happen? if 18.04 is going to be supported for 10 years, we really want pgpool2 in the backports repository if possible.
