dpkg-preconfigure crashed with SIGSEGV in Perl_pp_subst()

Bug Description

Rebooted the system, there were 20 crashes and this was the only one I was able to submit, rest of them the report problem app itself is crashing

If you're getting lots of crashes, it sounds like you have a deeper problem, perhaps hardware (e.g. memory) problems. All the same, debconf itself is purely interpreted and if the perl interpreter crashes then that's its problem.
