Bug Description
Whenever I try to update my system, the following error message is reported;
E: /var/cache/
The error survives any attempt I make to fix broken packages as advised if I try to perform and apt-get update operation in a terminal window. The text of the pasted into the window above was displayed in a pop-up window when using Synaptic Package Manager to perform an update of the system.
Below is the full text displayed in the 'Details' section of the package manager;

Please ignore my report and close this bug report. I no longer regard this as a bug because a trivial fix exists.
Opening Synaptic Package Manager and the application reports a broken package. Using the application to fix that broken package does not actually resolve the issue. However by simply marking the libperl5 package for re-installation, accepting the prompt to do the same for it's dependents and then applying this change does resolve the issue. Also, accept my apologies for wasting anyone's time.
