Bug Description

Binary package hint: pcmanfm

I did a minimal installation of Ubuntu with the alternate CD.
I installed lubuntu-desktop and rebooted.
I logged in, and opened pcmanfm.
I connected my USB key.

PCmanFM should have listed my device, but it didn't.
I know my key and my USB port both work.

That makes usb keys unusuable without command line. "sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt" works.

This is maybe related to hal since I know PCmanFM uses and depends on hal for automounting devices.
Hal is installed in my computer and /etc/init.d/hal doesn't exist.

Can you tell me which Lucid Lynx release are you using? (Alpha 1, Alpha 2, Alpha3)?

I downloaded and installed the latest daily-build yesterday. I think it
is alpha 3 though I'm not sure (don't know how to know)

I've just come across this same problem booting from the Lubuntu Lucid Alpha 3 LiveCD on my Intel MacBook Pro.

One of the features I most appreciate about pcmanfm is the way all connected volumes are detected and listed in the side pane of the pcmanfm window, where a simple click allows the relevant volume to be mounted and browsed.

What first caught my attention was the lack of an entry for the MacBook's own internal HDD in the pcmanfm side pane. I then tried plugging in a variety of USB sticks, again without any of them showing up there (or anywhere else in the gui). So, yes - we're back to the command line if we want to actually mount anything.

I think this might have something to do with the move from pcmanfm 0.5.2 to pcmanfm 0.9.0 (see <http://blog.lxde.org/?p=616>) and the deprecation of HAL in favour of gvfs (<http://blog.lxde.org/?p=538>).

That said, the LXDE blog <http://blog.lxde.org/?p=616> cited above does list "8. Basic auto-mount (provided by gvfs)" as of the "Major improvements" offered under pcmanfm 0.9.0...

Hope this is helpful.

Please note that if you are using the Lubuntu ISO, the version of pcmanfm (0.9.0) is not yet part of the repository. Any bug report on it should go to the lubuntu-desktop mailing for now.
