Bug Description

Binary package hint: pbuilder

When a user installs pbuilder, the mirror in /etc/pbuilder/pbuilderrc is :

MIRRORSITE=http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/

This cause pbuilder to report an invalid release file, also breaking prevu.

When the value is replaced by :

MIRRORSITE=http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/

The problem goes away.

It might be a good idea to change the value to http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ by default.

RIght, on first installation, pbuilder will try to guess your mirror from your /etc/apt/sources.list and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*

The first entry is taken; this is not sophisticated enough.

As a workaround "dpkg-reconfigure pbuilder" to change this, or change /etc/pbuilderrc

I just wanted to add some Google fodder, this is the error in response to this bug:

sudo pbuilder create --debug
...
+ debootstrap --include=apt --variant=buildd --keyring=/usr/share/keyrings/ubuntu-archive-keyring.gpg oneiric . http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu
I: Retrieving Release
E: Invalid Release file, no valid components
+ log 'E: debootstrap failed'
+ case "$*" in
+ echo 'E: debootstrap failed'
E: debootstrap failed
+ exit 1

Not sure when this got fixed, but now the default pbuilderrc in the ubuntu version of pbuilder uses archive.ubuntu.com.

Closing accordingly.
