Bug Description

Binary package hint: pavucontrol

In 9.04 and earlier, and on other distros, one can right-click on a playback stream and "move stream" to record that stream or play it on a particular playback device. In 9.10, the only option is "Terminate".

I found a source on the net that says there should be a button that produces a drop-down menu including "move stream", but there is not. See forum thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1353054

Note that padevchooser also fails to offer this option.

Clicking the buttons to switch streams does not produce a drop-down menu. If you click the buttons very rapidly over and over a drop-down menu will come up. It is very difficult to get this to work, however.

pavucontrol is put forth as a replacement for padevchooser, but apparently it doesn't yet fully offer all the predecessors functionality (see bug 881248 and bug 851695). One thing mentioned frequently is the option to stream audio to another network-connected device which apparently is being discussed in this ticket. It would be nice if somebody put forth a replacement or the functionality was absorbed into pavucontrol itself. Going by what mooreted said in comment 2 it looks as if this is a simple UI issue?! Best thing to move this forward now is to talk to upstream about the issues you guys are facing. If they can supply you with a patch, I'm happy to help you get it into precise and any stable release affected via SRU.

This issue is still present in ubuntu 11.10 oneiric ocelot ! I cannont chose another machine (with a pulseaudioserver) directly.
It is possible to stream it via avahi into the network, but this produces so much traffic, it brakes my wlan down !

I wrote a replacement for padevchooser, called pasystray. It is able to move streams on the fly to all available devices.

It is available under LGPL:
https://github.com/christophgysin/pasystray

It's not fully mature yet, but I'll happily accept patches.

Thx Christoph, but I' using Kubuntu, so after I ran ./bootstrap.sh, I receive this:

No package 'gtk+-3.0' found
I found two workaround, that I will can change pulse audio server:

1. pacmd load-module module-tunnel-sink server=$ipaddress
(necessary run every reboot)

2. /etc/profile
export PULSE_SERVER=$ipaddress
