Volume mutes when below 22%

When i lower my volume to 21%, all sound is muted. Alsamixer shows the PCM channel as muted and the Master channel is set to zero. Increasing the volume in pulse to 22% unmutes alsa's PCM, sets alsa Master channel to 1% and everything plays again.

(FWIW, 50% in pulse corresponds to 55% in alsa and 99% in pulse = 100% in Alsa).

Im using an Audigy 1 card. I don't recall this happening in Jaunty, though but I used a different soundcard.

Same for me. I have a dell inspiron 6400 with HDA Intel audio card.
When I open alsamixer and I lower my volume to 21%, the "master" volume is muted (=0).
If I lower my volume less than 21%, the "pcm" volume is lowered.

In Jaunty, the "pcm" volume isn't lowered when I lower the general volume.

It is a good idea to lower the "pcm" volume but before the "master" volume is muted.

Any solution ?

I've found a solution: edit file /etc/pulse/default.pa
reach line "load-module module-udev-detect"
and add this to the end "ignore_dB=1"

I don't know if this change has side effects, but it works

Thanks. I modify the file and restart my computer. It is perfect now. When I modify the volume with the multimedia keys, the "PCM" volume is not modified.

Thanks Nicolo, your workaround works great here as well.

I do hope this gets fixed though, i got more similar "workarounds" for my
network card, acpi and webcam then I can remember.
