Bug Description

Ubuntu 9.04
pavucontrol 0.9.7-1ubuntu3

This bug is a feature request for the muted_speaker/shield icons in pavucontrol to change to speaker/muted speaker and linked_chain/broken_linked_chain icons respectively.

In pavucontrol the speaker icon without "x" or cross over it means should represent unmuted, with "x" represents that channel is muted. pavucontrol should also use a "linked chain" and "broken link chain" instead of an armor icon to represent both channels are linked and the volume levels (for left and right) go up/down together or seperate. See the way gnome-volume-control does this as an example.

This currently shows a "lock" icon for ganging the faders, and the icon is far away from the faders, making its function not obvious. I would expect a "lock" icon to lock the device and prevent other programs from changing it.

Instead, you should show a "chain link" icon, and show lines connecting it to the faders, so the function is obvious.

It does use a muted speaker icon now, but the icon doesn't change. If you press the button in, it's muted, and if you unpress it, it's playing, but the icon is a muted speaker no matter what.

I don't see any linked chain icons in gnome-volume-control, but it has left-right balance control and rear-front fade control (in 4.0 hardware profile). I think it would be best, if there were separate locks from rear to front and from front left to front right and from rear left to rear right.

Attached is the icon image that I see in my PulseaAudio volume control. There is practically no difference in what it looks like selected or unselected so it's very hard to tell when mute is on or off.
