Bug Description

Binary package hint: pathological

Hi there,

Never had any problems with pathological until now.
started up, didn't play any sound.
tried to toggle sound off and on again from within the game menu and it bailed out....perculiar eh ?
;-)

Personally I don't think this is a pathlogical problem, I tend to think that this is alsa related.

Switched over to Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid), pathological crashes now in a totally different way:
see bug # 269155

The version of pathological is the same however. What changed is the version of pulseaudio.
This could be a pulseaudio bug.

Many thanks :-)

testing on Ubuntu 12.04 - 64bit / AMD Phenom II 965 quadcore / 8GB

It is indeed a lot better, even the sound latency has gone down.
most of the time it is working.

there is one persistant bug:
Cannot load music: music/intro.xm

somtimes still a crash followed by:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/games/pathological/pathological.py", line 2218, in <module>
    rc = introscreen.do( show_highscores)
  File "/usr/share/games/pathological/pathological.py", line 2076, in do
    rc = self.menu_select( i)
  File "/usr/share/games/pathological/pathological.py", line 2098, in menu_select
    toggle_music()
  File "/usr/share/games/pathological/pathological.py", line 203, in toggle_music
    if music_pending_song:
NameError: global name 'music_pending_song' is not defined
Cannot load music: music/intro.xm

and also periodically short freezes of the screen during gameplay

Shall I open a seperate bug report or would you like me to continue here ?

oh, by the way, the file "intro.xm" exists, is in the same directory as "background.xm" (which does play ingame) and both files do play OK when loaded into a mediaplayer... hope this helps.
