Bug Description
Binary package hint: debian-installer
Since Lucid, the cdrom entry in /etc/fstab is missing. Upgrades retain this entry and do not have this problem.
Solution after installation: add the entry in /etc/fstab if a cdrom is present and create the /media/cdrom0 directory and /media/cdrom link
Example in /etc/fstab:
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,

It was removed intentionally - putting it in /etc/fstab is no longer a
sensible thing to do on a distribution-wide basis in these days of
dynamic device handling. Does something break for you because cdrom is
no longer in /etc/fstab? If so, what?
