Dapper 6.06.1 installer: Can't undo LVM partition?

Bug Description

I am installing from the Dapper 6.06.1 i386 "server" CD on a low-memory system.

When I mistakenly selected hda6 (actually by BIOS hibernation area) as "use as LVM physical disk", I could no longer change it. At first I tried to change it to "don't use this partition" but to no avail, it still said "lvm" in the table. Then I tried "undo changes to partitions" but that, too, was unsuccessful. In the end I rebooted the installer in order to recover.

Sorry if "partman" is the wrong package, this is what I'm seeing in the log on virtual terminal #4 so I'm guessing this is the package responsible for the partitioning task in the installer.

I haven't tested it yet, but I'm hoping that this should be a lot smoother in Edgy; a good deal of work has been done on partman-lvm there.

Edgy appears to have a similar problem with LVM.

Installing from the daily Kubuntu PPC Alternate CD, I accidentally chose "Erase and use LVM" instead of "Partition manually". This trashed my data with no apparent way to recover. (Thank goodness for backups!)

Other irreversible choices (such as the regular erase-disk option) prompt for confirmation that such-and-such partitions will be formatted. If a mistake was made, the user can choose "Go back" and then "Undo changes to partitions" to recover. With "Erase and use LVM", the new partition map is written to disk before the user is asked whether to format.
