It has happened every time I tried to do a something else install on a real machine. Unfortunately it's impractical for me to reproduce this for you because I don't have an unlimited supply of real machines.
The original bug I wrote was closed as a duplicate of this one. But reproducing the problem was very straight forward.
I had a machine with 3 partitions - /, /home, and swap. I selected the something else install and told it to formate / and leave /home alone. Then it just sat there forever when I pressed continue. No actual formatting took place.
