Bug Description

Binary package hint: partman-auto

Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2, 64 bit, Desktop-CD

manual partitioning

every attempt to create a new partition in Ubiquity ends with this error message:

Unable to satisfy all constraints on the partition

on the disk is more then enough free space (ca. 190 GByte)
it's a standard disk with 512-kByte sectors

fdisk -l -u -c /dev/sda

Disk /dev/sda: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders, total 1953525168 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x27f7a537

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 2048 206847 102400 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda2 206848 206579711 103186432 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda3 206579835 208539764 979965 83 Linux
/dev/sda4 208539765 1575719459 683589847+ 5 Extended
/dev/sda5 208539828 1575719459 683589816 8e Linux LVM

To get around this problem, I used gparted to increase the size of /dev/sda4 to the end of the hard disk, and then to create a new logical disk sda6 within sda4.
