manual partitioning
every attempt to create a new partition in Ubiquity ends with this error message:
Unable to satisfy all constraints on the partition
on the disk is more then enough free space (ca. 190 GByte)
it's a standard disk with 512-kByte sectors

To get around this problem, I used gparted to increase the size of /dev/sda4 to the end of the hard disk, and then to create a new logical disk sda6 within sda4.
