Bug Description
Kubuntu alt CD Release 9.04RC 4.15.09
This is against debian-installer so ubuntu-bug
cannot be used.
Logs syslog and partman are attached in errlog file
Steps to recreate problem
This test was run with two drives sda and sdb
start up kubuntu alt cd
get to partitioning step
Problem:
The first partitioning selection which is
'Guided and resize ... and use freed space'
is always highlighted and
always chooses the Largest formatted space on drive sdb
Here is what I find challenging with that.
The Highlighted Selection says Guided
I would think Guided would mean that I would be guided
but that I would make the final choice of drive/partition
and that the Guide would show me what is available
for resizing and then let me choose from a list
but instead I am locked into the partition/drive
chosen by the installer.
In this case the
'Guided and resize ...' Selection shows partition #10 on sdb
I don't want partition #10 on sdb to be used
I would prefer partition #10 on sda which is totally empty.
(further lets say I know enough about my drives that
I know I don't want to resize the partition/drive (here sdb10) that the
Guide has highlighted but I don't know enough about manual
partitioning to use it)
Solution:
I fully realize that this particular action is probably
not easy to code, so put some of the responsibility on the user
When the User Selects
'Guided and resize ... using freed space'
Then show them a list of possible partitions from all drives
as long a number of drives < 3 (anyone with >2 drives needs
to know how to manually partition) and let the user choose
the partition/drive that best suits them
Obviously this is not a make or break problem for someone fluent
in Linux land but to new users it could be a problem.
Thanks for your report. This is also bug 351473.
