Windows partition not automounted/autodetected in Dapper

Bug Description

I'm using the Dapper flight 3 CD. My NTFS and VFAT partitions are not mounted or detected automatically. For the average user, it's rather inconvenient to have to go mess around with the fstab in order to find their stuff.

This is a bug, because it's meant to be autodetected but isn't due to some problem in partman. I'm deliberately leaving this at severity normal.

DaneM, could you attach /var/log/installer/partman to this bug, please? I'm fairly sure I know the cause of this problem, but I'd like to confirm that it's the same thing.

If you could please test with last iso build. Because mounting vfat/ntfs have been improved since flight 3

Those improvements aren't relevant to this bug.

My partition is autodetected but standard it's only allowed for root to access it which is great I think.
BUT
then you either don't show the icon to normal users on their desktop OR
you give them the oppurtunity to enter the root pass through gksudo to access it.

you don't put a candy in a kids face when he's unable to have it and if you do they get really annoying ;)

Jan: that's a different bug, and already fixed in Dapper post-Flight-CD-6. Please don't introduce permissions issues into this bug, which is about a different problem.

Right, thanks for that log. I've confirmed that this is the same root cause as bug 27820, namely that the autopartitioning process clears out all state which it thinks is due to manual partitioning, which happens to include the automatically preset mount points.
