In Ubuntu installer, LVM device nodes are not created in time

Bug Description

This is similar to bug #964957, but requires a different workaround, so I am reporting it as a new issue.

When install Ubuntu with root and swap on LVM, the installer sometimes warns, "Could not stat device /dev/mapper/hostname-root - No such file or directory". Selecting Retry does not fix the issue. However, if I switch to a different virtual terminal and run "vgscan --mknodes", then switch back to the install terminal and select "Retry", everything works as usual.

In the Precise Pangolin betas, I did not have to use this workaround (but did have to use the workaround in bug #964957).

I will attach a few screenshots in case they help to clarify things.

Here is a screenshot of the workaround as well.

Can you test quantal net-install or server iso?
I believe this is now fixed due to fixing bug #964957.

I've hit this bug even tough I've applied the fix discussed in comment #6 of bug #964957.

Specifically I've built partman-auto-lvm_42ubuntu2+dannf2_all.udeb from the 38th revision of https://code.launchpad.net/~dannf/partman-auto-lvm/precise-fixes, and installed that udeb using an early command. I've also confimed that /bin/perform_recipe_by_lvm contains the update-dev --settle line.

It happened for me just as in Sgifford reported, but with swap partition instead of root. I'm preseeding the partitioning. The workaround he suggested (running vgscan --mknodes) works for me too.

Can you reproduce this problem using quantal images? It has a few other partman-auto-lvm fixes included.
