I was just wondering, what would it take to get parcellite to integrate with the App Indicator? Just a python script? Or do you need to patch the source code?

I have some elementary programming skills that I would like to improve, hopefully improving open source software as well. This is definitely something I would like to work on. Is there some way I can get mentorship on this project?

Thanks!

Recently, the developer of Parcellite has decided to stop developing it (http://parcellite.sourceforge.net/?p=89). This could be a good oportunity to fork the code and add indicator support.
I've found https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopExperienceTeam/ApplicationIndicators which explains how such integration ca be made. One thing to note is Parcellite's source is written in C.
I would like to help in this, but for the moment I'm a bit busy at school.

So, is there anything going on with this? I'd be happy to mess with this on weekends, if I had people who wanted to try it (And to bug me from time to time >_>). Is there still interest in changing this?

As the Debian/Ubuntu maintainer, I'd be happy to carry a patch implementing this. Another option would be working with ClipIt on this. ClipIt is a fork of parcellite. If it continues on its current pace, I'll probably provide a direct upgrade from parcellite to ClipIt.

Alright. Hmm. I'll take a look at the ClipIt fork and see if that would be worthwhile.

A couple of us started working on a new clipboard manager written in Vala:

I haven't had much time to devote to the project lately, but we are still active. Please feel free to join the mailing list.

Apparently Glipper has got AppIndicator support. Don't know whether or not the code is reusable.

Is there still interest in parcellite using indicator-applet? If so, I'll release parcellite with the appindicator lib. Current development will be on precise.

parcellite has appindicator support. PPA here:
https://launchpad.net/~rickyrockrat/+archive/parcellite-appindicator

The website will continue to provide debs without appindicator for systems not using libappindicator.
http://parcellite.sourceforge.net/

This bug can be closed. Fixed in 1.1.4.

The version with indicator support is now in Ubuntu raring and Debian sid.

parcellite (1.1.4-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * Enable indicator support where available:
   - debian/control: Build depend on libappindicator-dev.

I'm glad to see this. I was using clipit in the meantime, but it suffers from a bug that parcellite never had:
