Boris, just delete the old config file ~/.pan2 and reconfigure it completely. You will loose your work done so far but pan will work.

Karl: I tried what you write (delete old config directory), but it's not working. Still the same problem: It's writing "connecting", but doesn't get any connection.
Maybe some SSL problem?

G., silly question: did you shut down pan before deleting the conf? If so, give it a second try, like Boris did? Should this not work we have a bug here and you should downgrade to get it work..

Karl, thank you.
Now I deleted ~/.pan2, deinstalled pan, installed pan, and now it works for the non-SSL connections.
However, with my preferred provider newsgroupdirect, the SSL connection doesn't work. It seems that I must use again the workaround with stunnel 4, see here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=653246

I had to use this earlier with pan too, but in the past months, it was possible to use pan with SSL to newsgroupdirect without the stunnel4 workaround. It seems somewhere something was changed...

Two additions:
- now I got also the SSL connection working, by using stunnel4
- I noticed that in pan, the SSL and certificate options seem to have been removed. On the previous pan, there was the certificate stored somewhere in the ~/.pan2 folder, but now pan seems to lack any options to deal with SSL/TLS and certificates.

I had the same problem, and the same solution using stunnel4. This is how I had to do it before pan2 had SSL support, has this support been removed?

I have the same problem. Pan does not have ssl option when it used to.

Sadly SSL is still not supported in 0.139-2 Trusty 14.04 LTS (see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pan/0.139-2).

SSL functionality can be restored by downgrading and pin to 0.139-0 precise version from ppa:klaus-vormweg/pan.
