Bug Description

Binary package hint: libpam-modules

pam_motd(8) in libpam-modules 1.1.1-2ubuntu1 (Lucid beta1) is now responsible for generating the system MOTD in addition to displaying it (see bug #399071).

This rather important behavior, and its use of files under /etc/update-motd.d/ and elsewhere, is not currently documented in the pam_motd(8) man page.

(The motd(5) man page could probably be tweaked, as well.)

pam (1.1.1-2ubuntu2) lucid; urgency=low

  * debian/update-motd.5, debian/libpam-modules.manpages: add a manpage
    for update-motd, with some best practices and notes of explanation,
    LP: #562566
  * debian/patches/update-motd-manpage-ref: add a reference in pam_mod(8)
    to update-motd(5), LP: #552175
