Bug Description
I just played around with GIMP and it crashed, consuming all available memory and much more. This resulted in an endless clattering of my hard disk and Ubuntu was rendered useless for at least 5 minutes. Other people would have reset there computer because they would have thought it crashed, too. Maybe there should be some memory limits so that such things can't happen.

SUSE seems to have set up their distro to have various ulmits but the problem is that there are some genuine cases where programs gobble up a lot of memory which then just gets swapped out so it's hard to know what a good default is...
