Bug Description

Binary package hint: padevchooser

Expectations:
When the application is launched a system icon would appear for this application.

Results:
A generic blank page icon is displayed for this application.

Workaround:
Copy the file /usr/share/icons/gnome/16x16/stock/media/stock_line_in.png to /usr/share/icons/oxygen/16x16/apps/stock_line_in.png. The stock_line_in icon which is specified in padevchooser.desktop by default does not appear to be included with kde-icons-oxygen 4.3.1-0ubuntu1, the default icon set for KDE.

This bug related to any Ubuntu and padevchooser version.

Upon clicking on the menu in padevchooser (from the systemtray icon) many of the icons in the menu are also missing.

There is another workaround that also fixes the many KDE3 programs that don't show toolbar button icons under KDE4.

Locate the current theme's index.theme file (e.g., /usr/share/icons/nuvola/index.theme).

In the [Icon Theme] section look for an Inherits key:

Inherits=hicolor

(the part after the equal sign may be different). If the line doesn't exist, add it somewhere in that section. This fixes the KDE3 issue. If the line does exist, or if you just added it, add gnome to the line:

Inherits=hicolor, gnome

Restart padevchooser and you'll have icons. Also programs like kpdf will now display icons in their toolbars.

Thanks to Al Williams for giving this tip.
In order to make this work on my Kubuntu Karmic system I had to change the Inherits line to:
Inherits=hicolor,gnome (no space)

Yeah, it's an old bug.
It looks the same in debian.

It seems that it's somehow KDE-specific, as Al Williams.

This is also the case in GNOME (bug #632468). Not sure if its the same thing causing it - although I suspect they are similar.
