Bug Description

Please, what can we do to make Xubuntu GNU/Linux actualize the owcloud client? I've just made a clean Xubuntu 15.10 install, installed the owncloud client from the repository (sudo apt-get install owncloud-client) and... according to "General" tab in the client I've got "Version 1.8.1+dfsg-1ubuntu1" installed.

BUT...

There is a client version 1.8.4 available since July 13th 2015 (!!) and currently 2.0.2 sice October 22nd 2015.

I was running Xubuntu 15.04 before and the owncloud client package has not been updated since then (!)

Why?

Thanks!

The ownCloud client presently provided to the LTS release is no longer supported by various cloud services, such as OwnDrive. An upgrade to version 1.8 or newer is rather critical at this stage, this older version is no really usable at the moment.

Thank you.

But latest Ubuntu LTS is 14.04. I am talking about 15.04 and 15.10, though, so I do not understand your reply...

The problem is that not even the latest Ubuntu version contains proper owncloud client.

I'm using Owncloud in Ubuntu 15.10 and it works fine, but in 15.04 eventually came outdated and had to update from a personal archive.

OK, I am aware of PPA's, thank you.

But what I am trying to do here is to stimulate the Ubuntu repos maintainers to update owncloud client, because it's horribly outdated and the less experienced users should have the possibility to experience the general smoothness of using *buntu family GNU/Linux operating systems...

Confirming. Last update does not display tray icon. Owncloud client runs in the backround.

Same here, notification icon is missing. Reverted to the version from owncloud repository, working fine.
