Bug Description

Expected behavior: able to click on files in nautilus 'Icons' and 'Compact' views

Actual behavior: the file area in nautilus stops responding to left clicks to focus/select items as soon as I tap on my touchscreen.
After tapping I am also unable to select items with usb mouse. Very reproducable, logging out/in to a new session starts with working Nautilus, that stops when tap occurs. Maximizing window and tapping on file area, tapping on desktop, etc. all cause the problem.

'List' view continues to work, other gtk programs continue to work, and left-click drag can select 'icons'/'compact' items even when simply clicking does not.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

Got perfectly the same bug here, running 12.04, gnome3 and eGalax touch screen.

I got a hunch that this has something to do with new touch friendly scroll bar, because in Thunar, that was installed as a replace everything is working fine(more or less).

Why is importance set to low?
Because of this bug, ubuntu 12 with touchscreen is a NOGO!
BTW. maybe this has something to do with the: "Coordinate Transformation Matrix" Bug. Using this (absolutely neccessary) setting leads to uncontrolled cursor movements and unusable desktop.

why do people keep arguing over bug settings?

in any case machines with touch screens are still not so common for a desktop and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance states "Low: Bugs that affect unusual end-user configurations or uncommon hardware "

This bug is probably related to xorg: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=3e6358ee6c33979329b78fe2097a1fdf76fb69cd (the symptoms described here are the same).
I'm still unsure about why this patch isn't applyied, or how to apply it. Adding xorg-edgers to the ppa list doesn't solve the problem on Ubuntu 12.04. Technically the touchscreen is unusable.

Issue appears to have been addressed in nautilus 3.6.3-0ubuntu16, possibly earlier.

tap-selecting/opening items with Atmel touch screen left click now functions just fine in 'Icon' and 'Compact' view.

unable to reproduce issue when tapping on file area, tapping on desktop, maximizing window, etc.
