Binary package hint: oprofile

The config file of oprofiled is stored in /root/.oprofile/daemonrc. This seems, err, less than optimal and must surely violate the FHS, Debian and/or Ubuntu policy.

Are you running in a real root acount instead of using sudo? I looked and none of the oprofile .debs ship a config file so it looks like the application is creating it based on what it things the environment is.

Yes, we're running it as root.

In that case this is perfectly normal. Many applications store user specific configuration files like that.

Errr, no, oprofiled is a daemon that runs as root. It absolutely should not store it's config in /root/. If upstream defaults to that, we should fix it. That's what Debian/Ubuntu packaging is about. If you still disagee, I invite you to show me any other daemon that stores it's config file in /root/.
