This feature has been included in openSSL v3.4.0.

It consists of the following commits:

Thanks for this ticket.
I verified that the patches are upstream in openssl-3.4.0 (openssl-3.4.0-alpha1).
And since the openssl version in plucky (as of today) is already 3.4.0-1ubuntu2
the patches/commits are included.

Hence updating status to Fix released.
