this is on 12.04 x64, probably affects other versions.

maybe there's a good technical reason for it?

maybe it's a packaging oversight?

My apt/aptitude and dpkg won't do anything until this conflict is resolved. It tries to configure the partly installed libssl1.0.0 before doing anything else and, of course, it crashes out.

On lunar I have both libssl3:amd64 and libssl3:i386. I'm going to close this as Fix Released considering the time since the bug report.
