Bug Description
We have two subnetworks (with static IP v4 addressing). Call it here subnetwork S1 and subnetwork S2 .
There is a machine P on S1 . It is the local machine from which I am reporting this bug. It has a fresh clean installation of xubuntu 12.04 (Precise), 32-bit version.
There is a machine M on S2 . It runs ubuntu 10.10, 64-bit version (Maverick).
################## the problem #######
When I issue an ssh (or scp or rsync) command on P , aiming to access M , I must wait rather long time, about 5 seconds, before I get the login prompt.
#######
There is also another machine, call it N (ubuntu 11.04) , on S1. I.e. machines P and N are on the same subnetwork S1.
When I type ssh on N , again aiming to access M , there is no such a delay (the login prompt is got immediatelly).
The only essential difference (in my opinion) between machines P and N is in (x)ubuntu version (and also openssh versions).
P uses xubuntu 12.04, 32-bit. (Precise)
N uses ubuntu 11.04, 64-bit. (Natty)
BTW, when logging from P to N (i.e. within the same subnetwork S1), there is no delay.
In summary, while ubuntu 11.04 has no problem with ssh to the other subnetwork, xubuntu 12.04 causes the unpleasant delays.
There is no nameserver issue. I am using /etc/hosts or ever manually typed IP adresses (numbers) when doing the ssh communications.

Thanks for reporting this bug.
Can you run ssh with '-vvv' to both hosts and show the output here?
Does 'ssh P /bin/true' also take as long, or is it only a login shell which takes so long?
