Is the application in question gnome-terminal? (from Applications->Accessories->Terminal)

Can you get keyboard output on any other application? Text Editor / OpenOffice.org?

The following test will give useful information:

Can you run the program xterm (Press ALT+F2 and type in 'xterm').

This is a different terminal application. Please try your ssh with this terminal. If the problem does not exist here, I can report this as a gnome-terminal bug.

Thanks!

I did what You said. I installed mc, then I run it. I past some text from www into gnome-terminal, then, when I wanted to close (F10) mc-my keyboard stops to responde. The cursor was blinking when I was typing but without result on the screen. In xterm everything was OK (note that xerm cannot allow fot "paste" actions from clipboard)-mc was running, I could close it by F10 and run again, type all time ect.

Now I want to find the details of the package. Please type:

dpkg -S <the name of your program>

At the terminal. For example, if it's plain ssh you're using, type:

dpkg -S ssh

And post the results here.

OK, I made a few steps.
I saw that the keyboard "come back" after 25-35 sec. so the connection is "hang". Note, that I can use the local connection (by the router Linksys from my workstation @ server with ssh-server only or I can use a internet connection by adress from no-ip.com. Both connection are possible, but they hangs after few moments for a some time, they come back and it looks like this (hang-come back-hang...)
Workstation: Ubuntu 8.04 i386
Server: Ubuntu Server from Alternate CD x32-64
Linksys with NO Wireless connection

bartekw - your latest update seems to suggest that it was just the connection hanging, that it does eventually come back. It's been a while since this was last updated, are you still experiencing issues? Have you tried the latest release of Ubuntu (Intrepid)? Thanks.

I have updated my Ubuntu to 8.10 version.
I have a one machine at work and I have to say that open ssh sometimes hang on different hardware/connection. Especially when I change a window application to another in local PC and come back to terminal (or putty).

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue. I am closing this issue for now as it clearly points out common network problems. Ssh sessions often hang when using routers or network equipment which do not respect idle connections and therefore need up to 30 seconds to come up / synch again. Sometimes helpful is using the TCPKeepAlive setting (see "man ssh_config" and ssh level alives.
