Bug Description

[ SRU Justification ]
These SRUs enable building a number of packages on arm64, ppc64el, and (sometimes) armhf where they weren't previously built.

[ Regression Potential ]
Other than one isolated arm64 porting patch, none of these uploads touch code at all, so the regression potential is pretty much zero.

[ Test Case ]
Check to see if the packages built. If they have testsuites, see that they passed, if not, smoketest a few commands on the command line and make sure they run.

[ Original Report ]
This feature is to track the inclusion of some packages that we requested for Ubuntu 14.10 for OFED that are not present in Ubuntu 14.04.2. The list is
perftest
infiniband-diags
opensm
dapl
dapl2-utils
libdapl2
rds-tools
mstflint
ibutils

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1414818/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Hi Luciano,

To get this set of packages into 14.04 as SRUs, we will need more information for each package:

 - the specific version of the software component that you are requesting inclusion of
 - the specific way in which the versions currently in 14.04 don't meet your needs

We can then evaluate each package for SRU appropriateness.

The best way forward is for you to open a separate bug report for each of these packages, so that we can keep the SRU information for each package clearly separated.

Re-posting reply from Carol Soto:

Some of those packages made it to Ubuntu 14.10, we can use those in Ubuntu 14.04.2?

Rephrasing Carol. The version of the packages are the same as the same packages in 14.10.

What's missing is:

 - the specific way in which the versions currently in 14.04 don't meet your needs

Uplift to a new upstream version of a package during the development cycle, as was done for 14.10, is straightforward. Introducing new upstream versions of packages into a 14.04 point release, as you are asking for here, requires specific rationale under the stable release update process, owing to the risk of introducing a regression in a stable release that will affect other use cases for the software.

Hi
14.04 stream does not have these packages. We were able to make them available for the Ubuntu 14.10 stream.
Mentioned the 14.10 packages because at least the code in those packages were able to run ok.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I had overlooked that these packages were not built for ppc64el in 14.04.

Hello bugproxy, or anyone else affected,

Accepted infiniband-diags into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/infiniband-diags/1.6.1-1ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!
