Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

How to reproduce:

1) Open an OO.org program & type some text. (I tested with Writer, Spreadsheet & Presentation.)

2) Does the text look grey? Try this to confirm:
2.1) Open "Format > Styles and Formatting".
2.2) Right-click the "Default" style & select "Modify...".
2.3) Select the "Font Effects" tab.
2.4) Under "Font color", select "Black".
2.5) Select "OK" & use "Undo" & "Redo" a couple times to see the difference.

3) Lose Profit!1!! from previously unrecognized default formatting sabotage to your docs! (Just kidding. Hire a temp or an illegal to clean them all up. ... Also kidding.)

This is also visible under "Tools > Options... > OpenOffice.org > Appearance > Custom colors > General > Font color". Alternate here between "Automatic" & "Black" to see the difference.

I can confirm this behaviour. The standard text colour e.g. in Impress is not black. Is there a reason for this behaviour? From a fast look at bug #159315 I don't see that this bug is a duplicate.

I confirm this behavior. The bug is distinct from bug #159315 because it's also a problem on the default white background.

Well:

I'm using Ubuntu lucid - fresh install

The default font color for documents in openoffice.org writer seems to depend on the

system->preferences->appearance->["custom theme" selected]->customize...->colors>input boxes

setting.

I reset that to the default value now though because /input boxes/ (well... imho, on first thought at leaset) are defenetly something different than the openoffice.org writer's document area (where, ok, text is /input/, but it's not really a /box/).

To set the font to black in openoffice.org, i went, in openoffice.org writer, to

tools->options->openoffice.org->appearance->font color

and changed "automatic" into "black".

But I think this should either be the default or "automatic" should not pick "input box" but something that is by default black and relates better.

It is a duplicate of Bug #159315

It's about displaying the document depending on the desktop environment settings rather than what would actually end up being printed (or exported to PDF, etc). See also upstream bug linked from there.

Post #5 above (which I can confirm) makes it very clear.
