I can confirm this crash. The 'open' dialog also crashes openoffice.

Simon: I'm sorry, but I won't be able to build a debug version of OOo. Can one be uploaded somewhere?

Actually OOo crashes whenever it opens a GTK+ File Dialog. Open Document, Save As, Insert Image from File are all affected.

If it's crashing inside the file dialog, perhaps it's enough to install libgtk2.0-0-dbg.

Could someone please generate a backtrace?

You may want to take a look at bug 58492 which talks about this bug but in the AMD64 distribution. However, it is the same bug. They have found that there is a workaround (do not use GTK+ dialogs) and it is a linking problem, as well-- rebuilding and pushing an update should fix it. Bug 58492 has more detail.

I've tried twice now to compile per the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebugginProgramCrash and it has failed both times. Errors both occurred in "Building project qadevOOo". I've attached the compile error.

I've found that if you run the oo* commands with LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libdbus-1.so.3 before them, like so:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libdbus-1.so.3 oowriter

it fixes the crashes. Not sure if this helps, but it allows me to use OpenOffice w/o the crashing.

The problem is solved. See bug 58492 for the fix and a temporary workaround.
