This happens for me in 10.04. Worthy of mention is that if you have openoffice.org-presenter-console installed then this also happens in the fullscreen presenter console. As with the presentations, the screen gets pushed down, with the result that the bottom of the screen is slightly cut off behind the panels.
My workaround is to disable desktop effects in System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects, as with Compiz disabled fullscreen works perfectly. Terribly frustrating, though. I thought the days of having to disable desktop effects for some programs to work properly were gone. :(
Anyway, not to worry. Thanks for your work towards getting this revolved, everyone. Here's hoping the fix will have arrived in time for 10.04.1.
