My quick-start Icon appeared on the upper right of my screen, on the bar, around the clock and shutdown icons.

Oddly enough just quitting that did not solve my problem. In a separate e-mail I described to you what I did eventually find out.

Base is OpenOffice's database app.
I had Quickstarter on; closing that fixed it. It should have done that
