Bug Description

Severity: Major
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 2.0.2-1ubuntu3-3

Dapper

Resubmitting so it has right assignmen to the correct package. I got tricked by the suggestion of the "Choose" interface. Duplicate of (36143). Sorry for the mess.

Linux dark 2.6.15-19-amd64-k8 #1 SMP PREEMPT

All OO apps seems to work correctly. OO even "autosave" correctly. But as soon as you click on Save/Save As entries on File menu OO freez all X.

Content of konsole (eg. top) still update, mouse still works, but no widget works, you can't even change active window.

just updated to 2.0.2-1ubuntu6-1.
X doesn't freez anymore... but ooffice window freez (oowriter, oocalc... etc...) as soon as you take any action related to saving.

further info:
No "open" menu entry/icon works, but at least doesn't freez the program...

produce this strace:

here konsole just stop giving output and oowriter doesn't give any sign of life.

later I'll check with gnome if I can succeed to have to have a working one without messing the rest of the box.

Occasionally oo freez whole X again. Sometimes just oo window (no refresh in oo window area).

I've NFS mounts (in /mnt and ~/Document/otherboxname/ ) but none was used...
NFS doesn't look to be the problem.
oo was working a couple of updates ago... I think 2.0.1 was working. Meanwhile there has been some kde updates too.
I don't use oo frequently... so I can't be sure what update caused the problem (kde, oo, other stuff...)

If anyone can tell me how to collect more usefull info I'll report this evening (GMT+1).

I came across this:

Actually the solution is the opposite. Once I set "Use OpenOffice.org dialogs" OO seems to work again.

It has to be fixed anyway. Once Dapper gets stable... users will get crazy about this.
I hope repeating Open Save OpenOffice kubuntu ubuntu in this post will make the solution easy to find till a proper fix will be available.

I would like to confirm this still affects me on the latest dapper flight, 2.0.2 and so on. It's *the* showstopper. OOo is unusable.

Problem occurs on AMD64, but i386 is ok. Cannot save any OOo document unless "Use OpenOffice.org dialogs" is selected. Tested on Kubuntu 6.06 Flight 7.

When I do in OOo Save As function and I do 'ps afx' in text console, I can see, that OOo have subprocess, which is in the 'Z' state. I think, there is problem somewhere between 32 bit and 64 bit... (maybe ia32libs)?
