3) What is expected to happen is when one performs via the Terminal:
firefox https:/
secondary click the center of the table in Firefox -> click Select All -> secondary click the center of the table in Firefox -> click Copy -> in Calc secondary click cell C7 -> click Paste
it does so quickly and successfully.
4) What happens instead is that it hangs Calc for a long time (15 seconds - 3 minutes) then pastes or hangs Calc indefinitely.
WORKAROUND: Copying from Firefox and pasting into Gnumeric has no delay.

The bug is still in LibreOffice after so many years. Why?
LibreOffice calc freezes when I paste the test data to it.

Which browser are you pasting from?
I cannot confirm when pasting from Opera
moma (osmoma) wrote : | #6 |
I have tested this with Firefox and Chromium browser. The result is the same. I've waited several minutes and LibreOffice calc blocks. Maybe the underlying data has web URL links?
Take a look at the attached video.
Notice: This machine runs Ubuntu 11.04 beta (Natty) with latest updates.

You are right.
Import works right when I copy/paste it from the Opera browser.
LibreOffice calc opens the "Text Import" dialog and it imports data right. I've tested this several times copying/pasting from Firefox, Chromium(daily) and Opera. Only copy from Opera succeeds.
Thanks.

I'm afriad I can't reproduce it in any browser here using the method in your video
I'm using the Classic desktop does it still occur with that?
moma, copying from Firefox into LibreOffice Calc hangs Calc for quite a few seconds before pasting. This delay does not occur pasting into Gnumeric. Marking Confirmed.

Leighman,
I made a careful test on Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick with GNOME 2.32.0) and the result is _exactly_ the same. Copy from Firefox and Chromium fails/blocks totally. Copy from Opera works fine. All my systems are 64bit Ubuntus.

moma, since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as Triaged and let them handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

moma, please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 350193
When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https:/

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix
If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.
Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.
This would need to be fix upstream, if confirmed. => Wontfix in ubuntu packaging.
However, note my remarks on the upstream bug.

Works as expected with 3.4.3-3ubuntu1. Also the test document contains unresolvable links to host "some-url.no" so a certain delay has to be expected. => WORKSFORME
To clarify: there is _no_ delay here with 3.4.3
