Bug Description
Binary package hint: openoffice.org
When I use OpenOffice to open a file located on another computer on my home network, even though I've already mounted the folder, I usually get another dialog box asking me for username and password for the folder, or simply showing me the OpenOffice splashscreen and then nothing. When the file does open (currently that's most of the time), I can save it only to the local computer, not to where it is on the other computer. I cannot save at all from OpenOffice to a network location.
This problem has been pretty consistent for the past few years, now with OO version 3.0 in Ubuntu (Intrepid Ibex), earlier with 2.4, with earlier versions of Ubuntu and OO, and even in Windows XP. When using Windows XP I was able to solve the problem by "mapping the network drive." In an earlier version of Ubuntu I solved the problem by changing the netbios name of my host computer (removing an underscore). That no longer helps. Recently I've spent many many hours trying to find a network fix for this, but none of the many solutions that worked for others have worked for me. This included using wins, static IP addresses, and various ways of mounting network folders.
I finally conclude that it's just a bug in OpenOffice: It's been happening in several consecutive versions of OO, and it does not happen at all with any other program I'm using.
Since the problem has stayed with me across all these OO versions and even in Windows, I suspect that part of the problem could be that OO has some basic incompatibility with my router, which is a D-Link EBR-2310.
