Ubuntu 8.10 application crash

Dear Ubuntu Team,

Feeling adventurous I installed 8.10 in order to try to enable DMA support on my DVD drive so I could comfortably view movies. Though since then multiple application crashes are being reported. Also

If I can be of any further help for the testing or if you would rather receive no such report, please let me know.
