Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Bug also reported at Debian: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=477653

A document originally saved as MsWord file by OOo (2.3) says to be readonly ("Readonly content cannot be changed") when I open it in 2.4.0. This warning appears when I try to modify text. Even after saving as .odt file the warning remains.
The file is however not completely readonly:
1. Spellchecking does work 'sort of' (in case of typo, the correction is added, the typo is not removed).
2. Some elements from the file can be deleted (e.g. frames but not table elements)
3. Text cannot be changed or formatted, but styles can.
4. The file can be saved.

This is what I use:
Description: Ubuntu 8.04 (updated from 7.10)
Release: 8.04
Codename: hardy
OpenOffice 1:2.4.0-3ubuntu6 22-apr-2008

Thanks
Mike

me too. Sometimes.

A simple, three word, document does not have this. But a larger, 8 page one, does.
These two are stored side by side in the same directory...

Forgot to add... this is hardy but x86_64.
It's the same openoffice version.

The document that has the problem uses a TOC and outline numbering. There are no frames or pictures. And there are some tables in there as well.

What else can I do to help investigate?

Debian's openoffice.org 2.4.1-3 includes a patch (cws-cmcfixes47-sw.diff) that fixes this issue for me. Please consider this for inclusion in ubuntu.

Indeed, would be great if the patch could be implemented in hardy-64, even though the bug is reported by 2 users only....
