Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-calc

- Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon i386
- openoffice.org-calc 1:2.3.0-1ubuntu5

Calc very often crashes when I'm creating/manipulating diagrams.
Fortunately OOo restore my worksheet, but this issue is very frustrating.
I can't understand why.
Have you ever experienced similar problems?

Probably this is a different bug, because with the latest 1:2.3.0-1ubuntu5.3 the problem is still present.
How can I help you to solve this issue?

My guess is that it is already fixed in OOo 2.3.1, which is included in Hardy. You may want to test/verify it there (e.g. using the LiveCD).

Please try the following (with the broken version in Gutsy):
1. Open a terminal, e.g. gnome-terminal
2. maximize the window (to better catch any output later)
3. Start oocalc from the terminal (type "oocalc" + Enter)
4. Reproduce the crash
Is there any output dumped to the terminal? If so, please provide it here.

Yes, please test it with this one.

From looking at the terminal output/error log it looks like a problem in Java to me - but I'm not sure at all. You may be able to work around this in Gutsy by using another Java Virtual Machine, e.g. icedtea-java7.

I tried hardy 20080125.
The system uses gij instead of sun-java by default.
I wasn't able to reproduce the bug using this gij java virtual machine and the installation of sun-java6 fails.
So it wasn't possible to check the bug in the same conditions.

I believe that this bug has been corrected in Ubuntu hardy openoffice.org 1:2.4.0~rc2-1ubuntu3 so I am marking it as Fix Released. If after upgrading you continue to have problems with this issue then feel free to reopen this bug.

Thanks,
