Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

1) lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 11.04
Release: 11.04

2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-impress
libreoffice-impress:
  Installed: 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5
  Candidate: 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-updates/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     1:3.3.2-1ubuntu4 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages

3) What is expected to happen in LibreOffice Impress via the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/159325/+attachment/226965/+files/Presentation%2003.ppt && loimpress -nologo Presentation\ 03.ppt

the slides with gradient into transparency looks as it does in PowerPoint 2003 ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/159325/+attachment/2144737/+files/Screenshot.png ).

4) What happens instead is it looks like two rectangles, one stacked onto the other. The top rectangle has a vertical color gradient, dark to light going top to bottom. The bottom rectangle is just one solid color. The .ppt was created in PowerPoint XP.

Here is the presentation I referred to. (AS-Level ICT coursework.)
It was created using Powerpoint XP, although it may have since been edited using Powerpoint 2003.
Correctly rendered, the gradients into transparency are intended to feather the edges of the images that they overlay.
The presentation also highlights several other graphical, animation and timing glitches in Impress, but I can't figure out exactly what they are, so I haven't reported them as bugs.

I need to send this file upstream as the bug fix that was related did not appear to fix this file.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.

This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.
Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at:

Christopher, is this bug still valid / reproducible with the latest LO release from http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ ?

Could you please attach the document in question? That would help speed up the process of confirming and successively fixing this bug a lot. Thanks :)
