Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

When starting soffice i'll get the following messages, soffice will not come up and has to be killed:

---8<---8<---
(process:1025): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.13.7/gobject/gtype.c:2242: initialization assertion failed, use IA__g_type_init() prior to this function

(process:1025): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_screen_get_font_options: assertion `GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed
---8<---8<---

All dependencies are fullfilled - OOo2.2.x worked already before.

Greetings,
Erik.

it hangs the computer and use all the resources without opening; I have to kill it by pressing ctrl+c.

Reinstalled Oo twice, to no avail. Same symptoms as above.

FYI, I use the proprietary Nvidia graphics driver, if that is related???

As it is for me, i'm able to test it with matrox G650D and thinkpad
R60's ATI-Device (tested with public and proprietary device drivers). I
agree in pointing to libraries.

greets,
 Erik.

I'm using Ati proprietary driver, version 8.33.6, (it's an old release)
so I don't think it depends on video card...

Hi folks!

I found a work-around in the net:

Just reinstall libgtk2.0-0_2.10.11-0ubuntu3_i386.deb and install it with
'dpkg -i libgkt....' . This will superseed version 2.11.6 (afaik) and
OOo will work again.

Greetings,
 Erik.

Hi folks!

When starting OOo2 with libgtk2...2.10.11 OOo is doing fine, but some
dependencies are expected to be broken.

If i'm starting soffice i get the error-messages - but OOo2 starts fine:

---8<---8<---

(process:11179): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **:
/build/buildd/glib2.0-2.13.7/gobject/gtype.c:2242: initialization

(process:11179): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_screen_get_font_options: assertion

Does anyone know about a solution?

I'm running Ubuntu Gutsy x86-64. It must be related to a recent update (about 1 week). At the same time my GLX got broken. Basically graphics works, including desktop effects and transcluency... However starting any GL application (GL screen-saver, glxgears...) crashes my X session, unfortunatelly without any traces in the logs. I've been always using nvidia-glx-new drivers without problems (at least not critical ones), update to latest nVidia beta drviers from NVidia site (100 series) didn't resolve the problem.

Hi,

Agree with mikeos regarding gl / glx problem. I use the proprietary Nvidia 100 series driver (for the 8600GT) and it worked fine until recently. Now when I open the Nvidia X Server Settings dialog and click on OpenGL settings or OpenGL/GLX Information, the program crashes. This didn't happen before.

I don't use GL / GLX at the moment (at least I'm not aware about it).

This is in addition to the OpenOffice crashing at splash screen.

My system is Kubuntu Gutsy with latest updates installed.

how do you actually reinstall this libgtk2.0 as mentioned in this posting:

since any tab completion doesn't appear to work for dpkg -i libgtk2.0, and neither sudo dpkg -i libgtk2.0_2.10.11 nor sudo dpkg -i libgtk2.0_2.11.6 seem to work...

anyone a clue?

Hi out there!

I logged an strace when running with or without latest libgtk-2.xy and
as suggested with all four packages (ooo-gnome, ooo-kde, ooo-gtk and
mozilla-ooo) installed. I'm running icewm on an iP-III-1GHz-SMP-System,
1GB, matrox G650D and much elder stuff - the problem remains at our
quad-xeons as well. =;-)

regards,
 Erik.
