Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

- shortcut for underline: ctrl+shift+u

result: the text highlighted will be deleted, instead of it there is an underlined "u" which won't go away when you undo the change.

using the mouse (clicking on underline symbol) works well. It's only the ctrl+u which produces this error in a reproducable manner.

I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 with OO 2.2.0 GERMAN localization-

If one wirtes a Word, press ctrl+shif+u in the word. a underlined u apears. After that, the left and right arrow don't work anymore until one delete the underlined u. If one double-click (or more often) on any word in the text this word gets replaced by the underlined u.

Dominik,

Underline for me shows as ctrl-u which works fine for me in Ubuntu 7.04. Does that not work for you?

ctrl-shift-u is a special command sequence to allow unicode entry eg: ctrl-shift-u####-enter causes a unicode character to be entered.

There is a separate bug about the fact that the enter in the above sequence should not be needed to enter a unicode character but that isn't the issue you are dealing with.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

The ctrl-u key does not work in my ubuntu 7.04 (german) at all. Neither when I press ctrl-u and write then nor if I mark text and press ctrl-u then.
The only keypress what makes underlined text is, when I press ctrl-shift-u that makes an underlined lower case u as mentioned above.

I think, starting with OOo 2.0 in the German Localization the new keys-combinations for bold, underline and italic have been introduced. I remember in Version 1.x I could just do ctrl+u for underline etc.

However, as in German bold is "fett" the ctrl+f has already been in use for find (used to be ctrl+g before, if I'm not mistaken). So these functions were set to be reached with ctrl+shift+<f|k|u>

If you want to verify, you really need a German version;-) I'm just about to install OOo 2.2.1; maybe the bug is resolved there. Under win XP in the German underline using ctrl+shift+u works flawlessly (I'm using version 2.2.1, but as far as I remember it wasn't an issue in earlier versions either)
the bug doesn't exist (not even

I don't think this is a bug, but rather a gtk-"feature". Ctrl+Shift+u is used to provide an unicode-number for special-characters (e.g. U+00A9 for the copyright-sign). Try the same in gedit, it's default in every gtk-app.

Beginning with gtk+2.10, only the ctrl+shift+u shortcut is affected, before it was ctrl+shift+a-f (or so), where e.g. ctrl+shift+f (bold in ooo) did not work. The only way to "fix" this would be, to disable the gtk-input-method in favour of x-input-method.

An easier workaround would be to change the shortcut from ctrl+shift+u into e.g. ctrl+u.
