update-manager problem when upgrading to 9.10

Bug Description

After getting to the end of the upgrade process it gives an error message:

Could not install the upgrades. The upgrade is now aborted. Your system could be in an unstable state. A recovery will run now (dpkg --configure -a). Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report. installArchives() failed

Setting up openmpi-bin (1.3.2-3ubuntu1) ...

update-alternatives: error: alternative mpiexec can't be master: it is a slave of mpirun

dpkg: error processing openmpi-bin (--configure):

 subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of libopenmpi-dbg:

 libopenmpi-dbg depends on openmpi-bin (= 1.3.2-3ubuntu1); however:

  Package openmpi-bin is not configured yet.

dpkg: error processing libopenmpi-dbg (--configure):

 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) → openmpi (Ubuntu)
