Bug Description

System: Kubuntu 14.04 LTS
Java: OpenJDK 7-JRE

On October 28th was released an update for openjdk-7-jre.

From /var/log/apt/
$ zcat history.log.1.gz

Start-Date: 2015-10-28 21:43:51
Install: openjdk-7-jre-headless:amd64 (7u79-2.5.6-0ubuntu1.14.04.1, 7u85-2.6.1-5ubuntu0.14.04.1), openjdk-7-jre:amd64 (7u79-2.5.6-0ubuntu1.14.04.1, 7u85-2.6.1-5ubuntu0.14.04.1)

Since this update KDE Plasma/KDE Apps have massive graphical problems, when at the same time is running a Java application.

To reproduce the problem:
1. Start a Java application, like JDownloader or TV-Browser
2. Wait 1 or 2 minutes or sometimes: do an action in the Java application
3. Open any KDE App, like Dolphin or Konsole/Terminal
4. Let the magic begin and now any KDE App looks like the attachment.

This problem is a known issue at KDE-bugs (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=350976). Other distributions have this problem since august. In Kubuntu 14.04 since update on October 28th.

Recommended solution is to install OpenJDK 8. Unfortunately in (K)Ubuntu 14.04 is only OpenJDK 7 available.

This is a massive bug, because KDE Apps are unusable while Java is running.

Ouch that looks terrible. Unfortunately Kubuntu does not package openjdk and could not upload a new version even if we wanted to. I will try to reproduce at least and see if we can get some upstream help with this.
Thanks,
Scarlett

Changed in openjdk-7 (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
affects: kubuntu-ppa → openjdk-7 (Ubuntu)

Scarlett, I've no problems running TV-Browser in 12.04, Admitetly is was a bit tricky to red rid of everything that belongs to Open-JDK6, so first install Open-JDK 7 - then remove the 6 -- so the Alternatives-System understands whats been done.

So - not sure anymore, if kubuntu-restricted-extras pulls in the open-jdk-6 in again...

regards the Version of TV-Browser which is not officially available... GetDeb has a offer:
http://www.getdeb.net/software/tv-browser

P.S.: GetDeb has bug-Managment also here: https://launchpad.net/getdeb (as per today 60 open bugs - and none against TV-Browser)

1. The Link to the Bug in KDE-Bugtracking-System is also in my defect report.
2. You can get TV-Browser from its official site without other external package sources (http://www.tvbrowser.org/index.php?id=tv-browser)
3. Why GetDeb-Bugtracking-System? The problem is not TVBrowser or GetDeb, the problem is JAVA and KDE - TVBrowser is only an example for a Java application.
