My initial workaround seemed to be good enough...

sudo mv /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.7.0-openjdk-i386/src.zip /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.7.0-openjdk-i386/src.zip-oldSymlink

sudo apt-get install --reinstall openjdk-7-source

I notice that /usr/lib/jvm/openjdk-7/src.zip seems to have been updated, and that a new symlink was not created. I'm not sure (at this time) whether I should now rename the old symlink, or whether it is redundant.

I hope this early information helps!
