Karmic 64 bit here too, same crash.

Turning off Assistive Technologies did NOT fix this for me.

export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=true
./eclipse

does work for me (fix care of http://ubuntu-virginia.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8145665&postcount=3)
