This bug is quite old and new opendict version - 0.6.3 was released since. Does opendict 0.6.3 crash with ExpatError in parseString() ? You can install opendict 0.6.3 in also older Ubuntu versions, no need to update whole Ubuntu to latest version.
Btw, it would be nice if you could also test new opendict package from http:// kebil.ghost. lt/debian/ pool/opendict/ program/
This package soon will be uploaded into Debian unstable and then will be included in Ubuntu Intrepid (8.10)
