which seems to cause `systemctl restart openafs-client.service` to not succeed until it times out and prevents shutdown where `systemd` hangs at `Reached target shutdown`.

On ubuntu 16.04 server

I have the same kernel bug, when trying to start openafs-client on
a server, with openafs-fileserver running on the same server. Output
from dmsg is attached.

Are you using Linux >= 4.4.0? This was fixed after upgrading to 16.04 as indicated in the upstream bug. Consider filing a separate bug for 16.04.
